Axiovert 5 Inverted Microscope with Phase Contrast

ZEISS Axiovert 5 inverted microscope configured by Darwin Microfluidics for brightfield and phase contrast, with four LD A-Plan Ph1 objectives from 5x to 40x.

Options: C-mount camera adapter 0.5x, 0.63x or 1x, and a fluorescence-ready stand (Axiovert 5 TL FL SCB) with a 6-position reflector turret and a fluorescence port.

Ships with binocular tube, intermediate phototube, eyepieces, LD condenser 0.4 with Ph1 slider, specimen stage with object guide, and dust cover. Camera, fluorescence light source and filter sets are not included.

General

The Axiovert 5 is the ZEISS inverted microscope for cell culture and research. Darwin Microfluidics chose the parts of this configuration for transmitted-light work. The objectives sit under the sample, so a chip or a culture vessel is observed through its bottom while the space above it stays free for tubing and fittings.

A 10 W white LED provides the transmitted light, and the light manager keeps the brightness even when you change objective. The LD condenser 0.4 leaves a 53 mm working distance above the stage. Phase contrast uses one Ph1 stop shared by the four objectives, so going from 5x to 40x does not require changing the condenser slider.

The left port of the intermediate phototube sends the whole image either to the eyepieces or to a camera (0:100 / 100:0). Pick the camera adapter that matches your camera, see the Selection guide below.

Not included: camera, fluorescence light source and filter sets. ZEISS cameras are available separately, for example the Axiocam 105 color R2 or the Axiocam 305 color.

Advantages

• Room above the sample: the LD condenser 0.4 has a 53 mm working distance, so a chip with its connectors and tubing fits on the stage.
• One phase stop for every objective: 5x, 10x, 20x and 40x all work with Ph1, so you change magnification without touching the condenser.
• Objectives for plastic vessels: the LD A-Plan objectives are corrected for 1.0 mm polystyrene, with free working distances from 11.7 mm (5x) to 2.3 mm (40x), for imaging through thick cell culture vessels.
• Steady illumination: the 10 W white LED has an average lifetime above 60,000 h, and the light manager keeps brightness even across magnifications, so you do not readjust the lamp.
• Upgradeable stand: the 6-position encoded nosepiece leaves 2 free positions, and the TL stand also supports PlasDIC, DIC, iHMC and polarization contrast.
• Camera-ready: C-mount adapters 0.5x, 0.63x and 1x fit the left port of the phototube for ZEISS Axiocam cameras.
• Fluorescence when you need it: the TL FL SCB stand adds a 6-position encoded reflector turret for P&C modules, TL/FL switching on the stand and a fluorescence port: add a light source such as Colibri 3 and filter sets.
