Microvascular network chips allow replication of in vivo cell/particle or cell/cell interactions based on actual microvascular network images for more physiological modeling. These chips come in a wide range of designs, some even including one or more tissue chambers.
General
Based on actual images of microvascular networks, these SMN chips allow for physiological modeling of cellular interactions within cell types but also with particles or drugs. These chips can be valuable tools to study the effect of flow and morphology on cellular behavior, in applications like disease modeling or drug testing. It is possible to study cell adhesion and migration in a specific complex environment.
Several types of chips are available:
- SMN1 for monoculture studies.
- SMN2 including one tissue chamber for 2D co-culture studies, with a porous barrier made of pillars.
- SMN3 including several 3D tissue chambers for co-culture studies, with a porous barrier made of pillars and pillars inside the tissue chamber for 3D culture.
